I remember as a kid, my parents taking my Brother, Sister and I on an occasional drive through downtown Detroit, never actually stopping in Detroit mind you, oh god no...only driving through it. Although sometimes our Dad would take us to a Tiger game. I always remember being scared to death of driving through Detroit because it looked like a bomb had recently gone off. Plus my Dad seemed to like taking the scenic route, making sure we could see all the scary people begging for money and peeing in the streets. I'm sure there were lots of good and innocent people as well, but to a small kid from the suburbs, downtown Detroit was plain scary. For years I've heard people say that it's a lot better than it used to be and I realize you can't judge an entire city from a few pictures, but for the sake of my baby and his baby and so on, I hope something can finally be done to fix this city and turn it into the renaissance city it once was, long before I was born.
